Ghila is an Eritrean/Ethiopian immigrant living in Oakland California and a San Francisco State alum with a degree in Biology. Ghila’s primary research interest is on how the currently documented health and educational disparities in marginalized communities are linked to decades of systemic oppression. Ghila has conducted research on the effects of a culturally relevant pedagogy and an ecological majority context as buffers to stereotype threat and its negative impacts on Black identity in academic settings. His long term goals are to pursue a doctoral degree in epidemiology and health policy so that he can conduct research that both speaks to and for marginalized communities and has communal, institutional and systemic impact.
